The Ulysses butterfly (Papilio ulysses) is renowned for its vivid, shimmering blue wings, which gleam particularly brightly in sunlight. This distinctive species is native to the tropical regions of Australia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Solomon Islands.  With its colourful design and artistic antique finish, the coin captures the magic of this remarkable natural subject. The design of the silver coin

The centre of the obverse features a magnificent Ulysses butterfly with intensely blue wings. Other design elements include the Cape York Lily and the elegant Bower of Beauty plant. Along the lower edge is a scroll bearing the inscription “BUTTERFLY”. The obverse also features the year of issue, “2026”, and the Perth Mint’s “P” mint mark.  The reverse features a portrait of King Charles III designed by Dan Thorne. The portrait is framed by the inscriptions “CHARLES III”, “AUSTRALIA” and the face value “2 DOLLARS”.
