Information on the Silver Wedge-tailed Eagle 1 oz – 2026
The wedge-tailed eagle is one of Australia’s most impressive birds of prey and can be found across almost the entire continent, with occasional sightings even in southern New Guinea. With a wingspan of up to 2.7 metres, it is distinguished by its wedge-shaped tail and large, powerful beak. The eagle mainly feeds on medium-sized mammals and is renowned for its ability to soar tirelessly for many hours on thermal air currents rising from Australia’s sun-drenched landscape, often reaching altitudes of over 2,000 metres. The renowned Perth Mint honours this majestic bird of prey through its “Australian Wedge-tailed Eagle” silver coin series. The coin is strictly limited to a worldwide mintage of 50,000 pieces.
The design of the silver coin
The obverse features the head of a wedge-tailed eagle in the foreground, with a bald eagle behind it. Both birds are shown facing to the right. The motif is framed by the inscription “AUSTRALIAN WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE” together with the year of issue and fineness “2026 1oz 9999 SILVER”. The Perth Mint’s distinctive “P” mintmark is also displayed. The reverse features a portrait of King Charles III. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions “CHARLES III” and the country of origin “AUSTRALIA”. The denomination “1 DOLLAR” is also inscribed below the portrait.
