Information on Gold Czech Lion 1/50 oz – 2026

The Czech Mint launched its first investment coin, the “Czech Lion”, in 2017. The obverse of the coin is adorned with the Bohemian lion, the heraldic symbol of the Czech Republic. The earliest documented depiction of the Bohemian lion was a symbol of the Přemyslid dynasty and appeared on Vladislav Heinrich’s equestrian seal from 1203. The lion was later adopted as the emblem of the kingdom by Ottokar II of Bohemia (Otakar Přemysl II), known as the Iron and Golden King. Produced to internationally recognised minting standards, this coin makes an exceptional addition to any precious metals portfolio. With a strictly limited mintage of just 8,000 pieces worldwide, it is also highly sought after by collectors.

The design of the gold coin

The coin features a completely redesigned relief and, on the obverse, depicts the two-tailed Bohemian lion – a realistically rendered national symbol wearing the Crown of St Wenceslas. Next to the inscription “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA”, the specifications “1/50 oz Au .9999” are also displayed. The reverse features the portrait of King Charles III together with the year of issue “2026”, issuing country “NIUE” and denomination “2 DOLLARS” (NZD).
