The design of the coin

The obverse side shows the bear in a dominant stance on rocky terrain, framed by a stylised Alpine panorama – a fitting tribute to its original home. Fine engravings lend depth and texture to the fur, making the animal appear lifelike and realistic. The scene is elegantly framed on either side by gold-plated, stylised conifers. The animal is honoured in the three national languages of Switzerland with the inscription “ORSO BÄR OURS”.
