Information on Silver Matterhorn 1 oz PP - Ultra High Relief 2025

The Matterhorn, known for its breathtaking and nearly perfectly symmetrical pyramidal peak, captivates mountain enthusiasts from around the globe. But appearances can be deceiving: this majestic giant, one of the highest peaks in the Alps and Europe (4,478 m), poses a deadly challenge and has already claimed the lives of over 500 mountaineers. Its conquest by Edward Whymper in 1865 was a triumph that kept the world in suspense.

The design of the silver coin

The obverse side of coin is dominated by a three-dimensional representation of the mountain in the foreground. The upper part of the coin features a topographical representation of the surrounding mountain landscape with fine lines and inscriptions such as "Unter Gabelhorn," "Zermatt," "Matterhorn Glacier," and the elevation "4478 m." The reverse side focuses on the historic first ascent of the Matterhorn. In the upper part of the coin, the Matterhorn is depicted in silhouette in the background, complemented by a topographic map of the surrounding region. Above this is "14 July 1865", the date of the first ascent, and the inscription "MATTERHORN". A circular inlay is placed in the lower part of the coin, representing the reverse side. The Swiss cross, the inscription "CONFOEDERATIO HELVETICA", year "2025" and the nominal value "5 FR" are imprinted here.
