The Little Matterhorn cable car leads up to Little Matterhorn, a peak in the Valais Alps in Switzerland. This cable car was opened in 1979 and is part of a larger transport system that includes Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahn and Zermatt Bergbahnen. Comprising two sections and reaching an altitude of 3,883 metres above sea level, this is the highest cable car in Europe and one of Switzerland's main tourist attractions offering spectacular views of the surrounding Alps and the Matterhorn.
The design of the coin
The obverse of the coin shows Little Matterhorn and the words "Klein Matterhorn" as well as the famous cable car in the foreground. The reverse of the coin shows the iconic Matterhorn, with the lettering "CONFODERATIO HELVETICA", the coin's face value of 20 Swiss francs, and the year of issue "2023". The number "999.9", which denotes the fineness of the silver content, is also inscribed in small letters on the edge below the year.
