Information on the gold "Swiss Linguistic Diversity" - PP
This special coin from Swissmint celebrates a hallmark of Switzerland: multilingualism. According to Confederation delegate for multilingualism Nicoletta Mariolini, this is worth its weight in gold. The coin's title "Varietad Linguistica" comes from Rhaeto-Romansh and emphasises the importance of linguistic diversity in Switzerland. It also pays homage to Article 70 paragraph 5 of the Federal Constitution, which guarantees the protection and promotion of the Rhaeto-Romansh and Italian languages by the Confederation.
This exclusive gold coin is minted in polished plate and comes with an elegant coin case and numbered certificate of authenticity. The Polished Plate (PP) finish is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate coin production processes. With a worldwide circulation of only 5,000 copies, this exclusive gold coin is strictly limited.
The design of the coin
Minted with a purity of 0.900 fine gold, the obverse of the 5.64 g gold coin depicts the 4 language regions using Swiss landmarks. Switzerland’s French, German, Italian and Rhaeto-Romansh-speaking regions are represented from left to right. These 4 regions are skilfully combined to form an overall picture: 4 languages, 4 regions, one Switzerland. Underneath, the inscription is captioned "Varietad Linguistica".
The reverse side of the coin features 4 speech bubbles clustered to form a cross, immediately conjuring an association with Switzerland. Emblazoned with quotes from the Swiss Federal Constitution, which form the basis for the promotion of multilingualism, the speech bubbles echo the theme of the coin. The coin's edge is imprinted with the Latin name of the Swiss Confederation "CONFEDERATIO HELVETICA", year of issue "2023" and the coin's value of "25 FR".
