Information on Gold Matterhorn 0.5 g PP

At an altitude of 4,478 metres, the Matterhorn is one of the most famous mountains in the world, owing to its shape and history, and a symbol of Switzerland. The summit was first reached on July 14th, 1865 by a seven-man expedition team led by Briton Edward Whymper. Four of the seven climbers perished during the descent. The Polished Plate (PP) finish is particularly sought after by collectors and is one of the most elaborate coin production methods. This exclusive gold coin is encapsulated and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The worldwide circulation of this gold coin is just 5,000 copies.

The design of the gold coin

The obverse side of the coin shows an illustration of Matterhorn with the lettering "MATTERHORN" and its altitude of "4,478m". The reverse side features the Ian Rank Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, framed by the inscription "ELIZABETH II", the face value "5 DOLLARS" and year of issue "2022".
