Roger Federer was born in Basel on 8 August 1981 and decided to leave school at the age of 16 to pursue a career in tennis. He made his debut on the ATP Tour in 1998 and has since won more than 100 singles and doubles titles. He is one of the few players to have won all four Grand Slam titles (Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon and US Open) at least once. in 2008, he won the Olympic doubles title with Swiss tennis pro Stan Wawrinka and won silver in the singles in 2012. in 2014, he and the Swiss team won the Davis Cup for the first time. With a total of 310 weeks, including a record 237 weeks in a row, Roger Federer has led the world rankings for the longest time to date. He was also the oldest player to lead the team. He also finished the year as world number one from 2004 to 2007 and in 2009.
This new 20 franc silver coin is available as a limited edition. The design was created by Swissmint’s engraver, Remo Mascherini.
With the silver Roger Federer – 20g coin, Swissmint is dedicating a Swiss commemorative coin to a living personality for the first time in its history.
The design of the silver coin
The obverse shows Roger Federer preparing a backhand shot. A tennis court can be seen in the background. The lettering “ROGER FEDERER” can be seen at the top right and the Swissmint engraver's mark “MASCHERINI” at the bottom left.
The reverse shows the Swiss cross in the centre, surrounded by the lettering “CONFEDERATIO HELVETICA”, the face value “20 FR” and the year of issue “2020”.
